Kids @ Caex?
« on: July 03, 2011, 01:53:26 pm »
Hello all, went to my first Caex last year, and it was amazing. Thinking of taking my 7 year old son, who has a strange affinity for the old school classics just like his old man (plays a lot on VNES). Anyone take their kids last year? Any tips? Was also wondering if, at 4 ft, he'd be too short to play on the cabinets? Thanks in advance...can't wait til Saturday!

There's nothing strange about his affinity ... a lot of collectors open up their garages with games to play on Halloween, and instantly become the most popular house in the neighborhood!  Yes, kids give up the opportunity to collect candy in order to play Mad Planets ... there is hope for the future.

Some people with kids have something for them to stand on to elevate up and reach the controls on the games.  You should be able to find something intended for just that purpose at Target or any similar store.  Do NOT use a chair or anything not designed for kids to stand on, as in the excitement it may tip over.

A note on bringing kids:  you MUST supervise them 100% of the time!  Kids are welcome, but don't let them wander of while in the intensity of a game yourself.  They will have a great time - it is the play and challenge that makes a game fun, so don't worry that they will be jaded by exposure to ultra-high graphics on their home consoles - they'll have fun.
