Thank You For A Great 2009 Show
« on: July 13, 2009, 10:25:22 am »
I just wanted to thank all the show organizers and game collectors who shared their wonderful arcade machines and pinball machines with the rest of us. I'm sure you folks put a ton of effort into this event and it shows.

This was my first year in attendance and -- as a person who spent way to much time at arcades in the 80s -- I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The atmosphere was great, hopping on a machine was no problem at all, the crowd was courteous and there was no "hogging" of games from what I could see. I also liked being able to step away from the game hall and enjoy a drink at the bar (nice side benefit). This event really transports you back to a magical time in so many peoples' lives. I love the nostalgia and the history of the show. Thanks for allowing me to relive that part of my adolescence.

Talks were interesting too (attended the MAME preso, as an avid MAME gamer).

I do hope the event continues in the future. I think the pricing is fair and (personally) would gladly pay more if necessary to ensure the event is financially viable.

Cheers!

Dave

Agreed! It was another great show this year. I enjoyed the floor but also the Backbone presentation and the trivia contest.

My post-show recap is here for anybody who is interested!

I found this post on rec.games.pinball, from 'Gizmonic':

Here is a walkthru video I took of this years California Extreme show.
It took so long to film everything that I had to break it into 3
parts!

Thanks for all the kind words - it helps keep us going.  It is an enormous effort, but it seems like it has really grown into something special.  The first years were great, but it has taken on a sophistication beyond what we expected, and I'm thrilled!  It was great to get together with people who "share the disease" but now it has become a more public event, and more people are getting involved to do special things.  Of course the huge room full of machines is the core of it, but I was really floored by the photograph Kevin Tiell made for the show, and the custom sculpture James Hakola made.  It seems the insanity we have for putting on the show has connected with many, many others, and I'm just so happy to be able to facilitate the amazing contributions people make!  Speakers who have stepped forward, people who bring games, or take time off work to show up a day early and set up, or even helping clean the dust off of machines to make 'em presentable ... what a great community!

We've been attending every year since 2005, and we really look forward to it. All the hard work really shows, and it's great to see the show becoming more popular with every year that goes by. #1 in my book is the great group of friendly folks on the Extreme Team who make it all happen. It's fun to see them each year, and to enjoy the fruits of their labors!
